A painful waste of paint

By | November 4, 2006

The new Sony Bravia TV ad showcases a massive explosion of paint that took 10 days and 250 people to film. The amount of paint and other materials required to accomplish this include:

70,000 litres of paint
358 single bottle bombs
33 sextuple air cluster bombs
22 triple hung cluster bombs
268 mortars
33 triple mortars
22 double mortars
358 metres of weld
330 metres of steel pipe
57 kilometres of copper wire

All these had to be delivered in 1 tonne trucks and mixed on-site by 20 people. In the aftermath, the cleaning took five days and 60 people.

To be fair, the ad is spectacular. But, like many commercials these days, what a waste of resources!
